Russia should remain banned. However in fairness many other countries should also be banned. How can Israel or the US be allowed if Russia isn’t? Ukraine if fine, they are only defending themselves and are not the aggressor. Some others are harder to determine. As long as the US is allowed, there really isn’t any high ground to use for excluding other countries.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you had to start today, would start collecting CDs or Vinyls?English
3·5 days agoVinyls don’t corrode over time. We have vinyl from 80 years ago. Still good. We have CDs from 90s that no longer play. And itunes that have completely disappeared unless than 20years.

World News@lemmy.world•US declines to renew USMCA trade pact with Mexico, CanadaEnglish
251·10 days agoNAFTA may have helped Canada grow economically but only if we stayed under the thumb of the US and jumped every hoop when asked. Trump just took it up a notch with USMCA and now wants Canada to be completely subservient. It may hurt in the short term but it is time for the US to become ‘just another country’ and for Canada to continue to pivot away from them in every way.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do the vast majority of people on Lemmy seem to HATE AI?English
81·13 days agoBeen around long enough to know that we are being sold on a lie that’s real purpose is extracting wealth at the fastest rate possible from the lower 99% while providing unknown risks and low likelihood of benefits to most of the population. The only “AI” that currently works well is a very fast database searcher. It is better than a human at that task but requires humans to create the database and all the information in it first in order for it to work. The only “AI” that seems to be possibly “thinking” for itself is hopeless, wrong, and/or very destructive.

Technology@lemmy.world•The average SpaceX buyer post-IPO is almost under water after two-day slideEnglish
91·21 days agoThat was the entire point of the IPO wasn’t it? Funnel money to Elon and his friends and leave the rest of the (less connected) idiot investors holding the bag? Anyone who didn’t own before it could sell wasn’t one of the in-crowd that was supposed to be handed money. If you did buy, you weren’t buying based on any business fundamentals and should have known to sell as soon as any gain could be realized which would have been hours or even minutes after buying.
I cannot tell you anything about any ads I have seen in the last few years online. If they pop up and I can’t shut them off, the single thing I am paying attention to is when the skip now button shows up. I literally cannot tell you anything about any of the ads, neither company nor product. Back in the day, you’d run to the other room and do things while the ads came on in TV shows but you were still hooked in because of the jingles. To this day I can remember many of the jingles from the 70s. New online ads, absolutely no idea.
However in the car I listen to radio and have recently started listening to a new station. I am starting to recognize some of the higher rotation ads. The ones I like, I might eventually try the business if it offers a product I need, but the much longer list is the one of companies that I will never do business with since their ads annoy me so much. Name recognition isn’t great if all it promotes is loathing.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why Students Are Rejecting Silicon Valley's Vision Of The FutureEnglish
261·28 days agoGood. I believed in personal computers and the internet changing the world. However the promise was that it would make life better for everyone. It only made life better for a select few who then used it to further their own interests. I don’t think the new grads have anything to lose by refusing to play the game since it is completely rigged against them.
I don’t know that it would help. The longer Americans keep Trump in power, the more their former allies realize that it isn’t “just Trump”.
