Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•They were right all along...
1·11 hours agoI don’t think they’re a hate group other than typical cult behavior where others are labeled a danger to the group, serious problems are hidden from outside view, and people can be prevented from leaving and psychologically conditioned to not leave. They sort of hate all outsiders equally.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I figure out where flies are entering my house?
2·13 hours agoBathroom and kitchen exhaust fans might be an entry point, especially if some critter crawled into the duct and died.
Probably still get you shot by the cops.

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Nearly Half of Americans Are Skipping Summer Vacation This Year and the Reason Is More Alarming Than Ever

World News@lemmy.ml•Iran to close Strait of Hormuz, strike twice as many targets in response to any US attack
1·17 hours agoSuch a failure of intelligence and mental ability. Incredibly conservative. Just keep beating up your opponent and being harsher and harsher until they fold and comply. Do it to your kids, do it to immigrants, do it to a country. The only tool in the empty mental toolbox.
Thing is, Iran is fully capable of punching back, and the big senile oaf trump absolutely cannot understand someone dishing back some pain - especially when trump personally is unaffected by it, just the rest of the countries and the people in the US.

News@lemmy.world•Trump Suddenly Opens Dozens of Gas Stations Selling Suspiciously Cheap Fuel, and Experts Are Already Warning of Impending Disaster
1·1 day agoNot the same. Buying the gas is spending some conservative’s money. You’re not going to be a blip on the radar of amazon, and spending a little less money at these “Freedom” BS stations that will likely last a couple weeks with trump’s fruitfly-length attention span is not gonna kill “gas station main street” the way massive big box and online retailers did.
All that said, if these stations start to get taxpayer money or grow artificially thanks to some trump pump-and-dump (hah, pump…gas…get it? Anyway…) screw ‘em.

News@lemmy.world•Trump Suddenly Opens Dozens of Gas Stations Selling Suspiciously Cheap Fuel, and Experts Are Already Warning of Impending Disaster
98·1 day agoIf you see one of these stations:
BUY THE GAS
They are selling well under market value, it’s a loss, they aren’t making money off it, it isn’t taxpayer subsidized.
This is the equivalent of someone making a toll free number to report rainbow painted sidewalks, everyone needs to call in and run up the phone bill with fake reports.
Make them piss away their money.

memes@lemmy.world•Perfect. This is exactly what I needed.
3·2 days agoI pretty much liked all of the Riddick series. I mean, I’m not looking for oscar-worthy performances here, but as far as an action film with some pretty cool worldbuilding? Heck yeah. Also, I’ve always wondered if those translucent predators were based on an old fantasy series by Barbara Hambly called the Darwath Trilogy in which incredibly similar predators emerge in the dark and kill. Never found a consensus as to whether the writers got any inspiration from those novels.
Oh, and a 4th film, Furya is supposedly coming out in a year or so.

5·2 days agoI’ve been using WU for probably 15 years. It’s been one of the most consistent weather sites and apps as far as decent quantity and quality of data. I had completely forgotten about the terrorist group with the same name. Now I’ll never be able to unsee it.

Technology@lemmy.world•All Cars Sold in the EU Now Require a Camera Aimed at Your Face. It’s Still Not Clear Where That Data GoesEnglish
33·3 days agoSounds like more ways for insurance companies to a) charge you more based on behaviors they arbitrarily determine are “bad”, and b) take your payments for years/decades then never pay out because they say something you did on video makes any accident your fault based on some term buried in the 500 page contract you obviously didn’t read all of.
They already do “a” by taking vehicle blackbox info uploaded by dealers or via telemetry and increasing your rate via their risk analysis. Note, your rates never go down for good driving. Only up.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why does it seem like the majority of people think problems are caused by drugs rather than problems causing people to turn to drugs?
15·3 days agoThe problems causing drug abuse reflects on the speaker’s treatment of people and the people close to them, it makes them responsible for the fallout of their actions or lack of action.
Blaming the user absolves themselves of any responsibility.
You can apply that to pretty much any social ills, like poverty, homelessness, etc.
IOW, the person blaming the user: may have abused the user in some way as a kid, voted to end substance abuse education in schools, voted to end afterschool programs that might’ve kept kids away from abusive situations or drugs in the house, voted to limit or end food programs that would have allowed people to not become completely destitute and take to drugs for escape, and so on.
With a blister forming on the heel.
Blade Runner still had civilization. I’m not sure we’ll be that lucky.
