Full “I don’t care” mode. Any pretenses of being president of a nation is gone, he’a treating the country like a throwaway business deal. Use it up, bankrupt it, take what he wants. I’d say hooker, but at least they get paid.
Many places already do charge a “line charge” if you have solar power and use little or no utility company power. You pay for being hooked up to the grid even if you barely use it.
IDK what the solution is. Pay more into it over time? Problem is cost of living accelerates faster than the value of the SS payment. And yeah, people live longer too…if they’re lucky.
What age do your retirement systems pay out? For example, in the US the $50,000 earner will only get ~$1400/mo if they take SS at 62, and if they wait until 70 they’ll get ~$2500/mo. Really forcing people to work until they can’t, and I guess hopefully die soon so they don’t take too many payments. Again, assuming no other retirement savings.

Assuming no other retirement funds: if you earned $200,000/yr you’ll get ~$4000/mo (+/- a good bit depending on the age you retire), if you earn $50,000/yr you’ll get less than half that. $4000/mo isn’t awful, but rent will soak up half that unless you live someplace crappy and/or in the middle of nowhere.

Social programs in the US suck, if they even exist at all, due to decades of demonization by the right and budget cuts thanks to reduced tax revenue because we have to let the rich hoard more of everything.
Right? He was a president who came out of the military during WW2. Not sure what people expected, a conscientious objector? The times got what the times were, no other kind of person would have been elected so soon postwar. Heck, he even advised that gunhappy ass MacArthur not to get involved in the Bonus Army debacle and pushed back against McCarthyism. Eisenhower, as much as he could, wanted to rein in the MIC in his “Chance for Peace” speech. Balanced against any modern president’s failings and with his social and public works programs I think the vast majority of people would find it a relief to have a president like him today.
Hardware rarely seems to be the issue with major distros. I have had zero trouble with hardware for years now with a big distro like Ubuntu. Some of the smaller or lightweight distros? Absolutely, a mixed bag of hammers not knowing what will work. Usually wireless internet, but sometimes it’s something weird like an NVMe not working or some USB driver.
Software OTOH is a really big problem. Software controlling hardware, for instance gaming gear like a joystick/throttle setup, RGB gear or pwm pumps for cooling, is nowhere near as comprehensive or user friendly, if it exists at all; and of course plenty of games and other windows/mac only software doesn’t exist for Linux or might work in something clunky like Wine.
Linux can’t do it all, but devs have little incentive to make things linux compatible. Why deal with the headache of trying to get their software to work on a bunch of different distros when Windoze and Mac are still working fine.
The gas prices I was paying were almost exactly the same as I paid in October 2024. IOW I don’t see him doing any better than Biden.
