I don’t know, it’s the floor of an open-air corridor in a fairly recent apartment building in Japan. I would guess some innovative flooring that is extra safe for families and easy to maintain.

I try to contribute to things getting better, with sourced information, OC and polite rational skepticism.
Disagreeing with a point ≠ supporting the opposite side, I support rationality.
Let’s discuss to make things better sustainably.
Always happy to question our beliefs.

291·6 days agoIf I’m not mistaken, the water looks bright blue because some particles are going faster than light in this water. So it emits a blue flash akin to the Sonic boom when a plane goes faster than sound speed in the atmosphere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherenkov_radiation

I guess they are just doing it more openly now that there’s another stupid war in the Golf so more countries are stressed by energy prices.
That’s… impressive.
Single hand submissions are welcome, like mine.

20·1 month agoI liked the writing and agree with the general reasons, but this is going a tad bit too far:
Instead it [the fediverse] became the only place consistently posting trustworthy information I could actually access.
There’s no reason to think things are more trustworthy or less biased here than on commercial social media. The fact that people here are not trying to build a brand because there’s no money to make in this small network is not enough to make it more trustworthy.
It may make conversations more genuine, but that’s not a guarantee for correctness either.

3·1 month agoMy experience of working in a tech company in Japan is that most engineers are not Japanese, they are mostly Chinese, Indian, other Asian countries, a few Westerners and then Japanese. Those recommendations are still relevant in this context. I would add, use short sentences. When you are learning a language, long sentences are really hard. It saturates your “guess-understanding” memory buffer.
