Do you suppose the father gave his kid all those wrong answers to make him score lower, or was Dad just a dumb motherfucker?

Jordon vs. the Town of New London tells a similar story.
A police recruit was dismissed because of his IQ score. Appeals courts ruled in favor of the town, saying it wasn’t discrimination because all applicants were treated the same and that cities has a legitimate purpose in screening their officers for intelligence. You’ve probably already guessed the twist part: his score was too high.
Still, too smart to be a pig: delightful. https://abcnews.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836

politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s Sickening Russia Deal Has One Clear Winner: Vladimir Putin
1·4 hours agoIt’s easy to see how this helps Russia, but what does it do for the US? The amounts discussed are less than 2days of US consumption. To drop prices, they need to increase refining capacity, this plan does nothing for that. Most people don’t know that the oil is flowing. Not at pre-war levels, but much better than in the Summer. The problem isn’t oil, it’s all the refineries that have been blown up in the Gulf States and Russia.
You’d think we’d be trying to help the Gulf States repair the war damage. Since theirs a chance that won’t just get bombed again. I think the reason Trump gave up on oil prices is because after the ceasefire deal with Iran collapsed, there simply wasn’t enough time to undo the damage before the midterms.
The energy ceasefire is a good idea and would save the Ukrainian people a lot of suffering and death. It would also go a long way to solve the diesel crisis. It’s just that high energy prices and Ukrainian suffering are good for Moscow.

91·6 hours agoExecutions should be public. Who benefits from it being done in secret? Why is State murder the only thing that doesn’t benefit from transparency?
You all imagine the people who will whoop and cheer; I imagine the people who will recoil in horror. If we’re barbaric, it’s because we murder criminals, not because it’s on Youtube.

21·6 hours agoIt must be painful for language pedants to read English literature. All the best authors I know ignore grammar and use English like a whore. And that must hurt people like you twice; once upon noticing all the “mistakes”; and twice, upon realizing that they understand English better than you. To realize your stuck in the pupil phase of understanding. Where you struggle to enjoy, and cannot produce good writing.

Nice thought, but this doesn’t reflect the reality on the ground. Antisemitism is common in countries where stupid people imagine that Jews are controlling them. Imagine how easy it must be to hate Jews when the Star of David is on the occupying forces uniform and tanks.
Deodorant is perhaps the nastiest substance I’ve ever gotten in my mouth. Especially the spray-on kind. It tastes like crushed up aspirin, but the worst part is the sensation as it draws out moisture 2/10

Sony MDR 7506 or similar are the best headphones I’ve ever owned. They are modular, designed to be repairable, and have great build quality. They’re wired and have no microphone, but they retail for a third the price of a bluetooth set that can match the sound quality. (~$100)
