Germany - Deutschland but in English ;)

Yes, and next year they’ll be kicked out of North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein too – in a big way. And no one will ever remember this party. I’m right to say that, with Linder and Kubicki – those complete egoists…

Germany - Deutschland but in English ;)

The question was how the FDP could keep its place in the German political spectrum for decades.

The answer is really simple. They have been doing this for decades. Fool naive first-time voters with a targeted campaign to vote for FDP, then do maximally corrupt clientele politics, afterwards lay low for a bit, and then rinse and repeat.

The FDP is so incredibly corrupt it doesn’t need (vote count based) state financing for political parties in order to pay for large scale advertising campaigns, and to pay their leadership obscene salaries. They can play this game very long, as long as the results for their financial backers are right.

@[email protected] To add to the above comment: in the early years of the Federal Republic the FDP was more or less the king maker. SPD and CDU had the major share of votes but needed a coalition partner to form the government. FDP was the third party in parliament and thus the only option.

This early FDP had a social-liberal wing as well (mostly in northern Germany) which would make coalitions with the SPD possible.

They always saw themselves ad the kingmaker and presented themselves as a liberal alternative to the other parties. Although effectively they forgot about everything liberal besides their economic policies as soon as they got into power.

Effectively they and the CDU/CSU were symbiotes of one another. The CDU always could pretend to be more conservative on economic things and then drop this for their FDP partners, while the FDP by sheer necessity had to drop all their topics besides market-liberalism.

This worked, and I think people knew that if you voted FDP you would get CDU politics anyway, but you could say you didn’t vote for them.

And I mean, the last time FDP went into a coalition with someone besides the CDU/CSU they basically acted as fifth columnists.

Last time when they broke apart they came back with a new professional campaign a few years later. They make politics for the rich, so they surely will also come back again, backed by some rich fucks who pay an expensive marketing agency.

Afd took their job. Rich fucks found out (again), that it’s easier builing up fascism in order to skim off profits.

Voting for the worst possible option as head of the party recently made it clear that they want to be over 🤷

And this is a huge problem for them. State politics is the training ground for the next generation of federal level politicians. Not to mention, that they provide paid jobs for party members in the form of those politicians, but also for staff. This is hugely important for federal elections as well.

Don’t worry, the typical voter’s memory is as short as that of a gold fish, also, first time voters tend not to read up on what candidates have done in the past. The FDP will be back one day.
