Twitch continues to deteriorate as a platform because what do you mean I can’t TAB OUT TO MY SECOND MONITOR DURING THE AD BREAK
I NEED TO FOCUS THE TAB AND THE WINDOW FOR THE AD TO PLAY???
Really makes you wonder the addiction people have to watching streams that they aren’t immediately leaving the service for good after seeing that.
They’ve blocked Twitch in Korea. I don’t miss it.
Twitch soon: Drink your verification can
Copy/paste of the steps i have posted in a friend group discord.
Block Twitch Ads without pausing stream Will not work in Chrome
In Ublock Origin Dashboard
- My filters (tab) --> Add twitch.tv##+js(twitch-videoad)
- Select Apply
- Settings (tab) --> Scroll to bottom of page
- Check I am an advanced user
- Select the cog to the right of the text I am an advanced user
- At the bottom of the page, locate userResourcesLocation
- Change it from unset to https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions/master/vaft/vaft.user.js
- If there is already a URL: At the end of the existing URL, add a space and then the above link
That doesn’t sound like my concern. Ads, everywhere, all the time, for everything, does sound like my concern.
Why do they keep shooting themselves in the foot? Will enough people put up with this shit to keep them in business?
I dunno, I haven’t looked at the site in probably five years or longer, but maybe they think they can hold out long enough that the next generation will just accept this is how it is? Is that the plan?

This ad can’t play because I don’t watch twitch.
Okay, bye forever!
Can’t miss what you never used
Wtf, this is real?
The name Twitch sounds like someone going through a withdrawal from powerful substances.
I’m so old I think of this
Didnt you guys watch that black mirror episode? It was exactly like this. Look away from ads and you get punished.
Fifteen million merits.
If we want to avoid this shit, we need to come up with a free, open source, ad free alternative, for everything you see doing this. The problem is, once it becomes big enough, you’ll need at least some money invested to keep it running (server, maintenance, services, etc.). And then guess what generates enough money that scales with usage. I hate this, and I reaaaaally hope there’s some other way.
What’s the alternatives? Non-self hosting, and you know what, self-hosting because why not
Owncast is the self hosted stream thing. It has some rudimentary federation capibilities, but nowhere near the ease discovery of twitch.
I know some streamers that have an owncast, expired_popsicle uses debian Linux and has one. (It’s tech/linux streamers because of course).
Why the fuck does my browser need to send it the information that its muted or minimized?
Why
Because money
there are many ways of detecting minimized/inactive or not. You can do
setIntervalthrottle detection when browsers slow down JS in inactive tabs for performance reasons.I need everyone to look at what you can do with HTML5 “game engines”. You want mouse poisiton? You want to know if the mouse is in on the page or not? Internet speed? Audio card codec?
If a 13 years old using the free version of construct3 can do it, capitalism can do it.
This is why browser games don’t tend to work in Librewolf. Also why I use Librewolf.
Firefox has plugins to spoof specific tabs as always active.
You should link them so more people can find them easily.
You must be using one of those browsers from an ad company.
There aren’t really any others though, every browser these days is made by a company with corporate interests in mind, either their own, or someone paying them.
While it may be true that capitalism messes with all of them to some extent, I think there’s still a pretty wide chasm between a Firefox fork like LibreWolf or WaterFox versus just using a default install of Chrome or Edge.
Forks are great, they can fix and change small stuff, but for bigger things like Manifest or engine level changes it’s an uphill battle because those change the developer ecosystem and momentum, and changing those to your liking is possible, but most developers aren’t going to take advantage of them.
It’s been a standard feature for a very long time I’m kind of surprised they’ve only just started making use of it but this kind of thing.
A lot of sites that play sounds will stop when you tap out of them otherwise they’re just plain sounds in the background and that’s kind of annoying.
And it’s not a bad feature to have for the functionality of some sites. It’s just that as with any feature/rule/etc it can be abused. So a toggle like (according to a comment above) some plugins add is an unfortunate necessity.
I think you can turn it off in settings
Because Browsers are corporate-built garbage which are designed with corporate interests in mind, same reason they choose to send good fingerprinting canvas data instead of sending randomized garbage every new session.
Joke’s on them, my computer doesn’t even know whether it’s muted or not.

20 GOTO 10
(I used to have one of those until 2015, when it broke down. Never ever found a replacement. By that point it was yellow, not white-gray lol)
Them bitches let ya know if you were getting a text. Loved that shit.
I had that exact model. Had a real satisfying click on the knob when you turned it on.
I hated how heavy that knob felt but the click was weirdly satisfying though
I think everyone had that model at one point.
