I still can’t get over The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Are there any games that can replace it? I want to try something newer, with better technology, but I hope they can be as rich and interesting as Skyrim.

Might sound weird but maybe STALKER. They’re both older, very charming but very janky open world RPGs, and both have immense modding scenes that have created an experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Tried the first three games in the series, but man, the enemy AI is so dog shit and the gun play is horrid. Does any mod actually fix this?

GAMMA, HACR, or Anomaly Custom are examples of a few modpacks you should look into. All of them have totally overhauled gunplay and AI afaik

STALKER 2 is actually quite enjoyable and has great world building, pretty solid story, and a lot of the loveable jank.

It is the first game I ever bought and did not finish. There is no story to speak of, only fetch quests. No world building (a-life is absent). All that I could cope with, but the gameplay is also inferior IMHO, it feel less tactical because the AI is so bad compared to the first stalkers.

If you play fast an aim fast it might be enjoyable because the AI doesn’t have the time to show its deficiencies, but it did click for me.

Probably a better overall recommendation based on OPs desire for something newer. I can’t say I’ve played it though so can’t personally recommend.

Also, Anomaly definitely runs better on average hardware, and modded Anomaly can look absolutely outstanding.
