I’m having a hard time understanding why the fuck this matters so much. You’d think they were discussing critical, top secret information. But, nope…just who the next Pope is going to be.

This is human trafficking. This man was bought, sold and transported against his will, and without due process.

Sounds like somebody’s about to lose all their Federal funding.

That is sage advice. I think I’ve been doing it wrong, this whole time.

Of course there were. They just weren’t sure what the effects of being in space were going to be on his mind and body. They had no idea if he would lose his mind in free-fall, or if he’d suffer a stroke from the g-forces required to reach orbit, or just simply pass out. So the first flight was set to autopilot. It was as much a live human experiment, as it was a test of their equipment. But he definitely had the code to unlock the controls if he needed to.

Bottom line is, he had been a pilot for most of his life, and was fully trained to operate that craft with or without the safety protocols in place. The training that all those early astronauts/cosmonauts went through was insane. The levels of physical and mental competence they expected from them, was more than any standard training given to regular pilots.

It’s not like they just grabbed some celebrity off a stage and let them experience free-fall for 11 minutes, so they could plug their upcoming concert tour.

The difference is, Gagarin was actually capable of piloting the craft.

Wait. Are we seriously saying that Katy Perry and Gayle King are on par with Yuri Gagarin now? This just gets funnier by the minute.

No. They weren’t “trained to travel in a spacecraft”. It was fully automated. They were just passengers on an 11 minute flight.

Seriously, if that makes them astronauts…then everyone who’s been on an airplane, is a pilot.

The dislike of Discovery is a totally valid opinion, but this is a poor & disrespectful take.

Except this is what I disliked about Discovery. You’d have ten minutes of activity that actually moved the plot forward, followed by twenty minutes of crew “checking in” with each other in order to discuss everyone’s feelings about what just happened while also rehashing events from past episodes. It was like watching a Spanish telenovela, where every second piece of dialogue was intended to remind you of what happened in the last episode…just in case you forgot.

Every episode was 3/4 dialogue, discussing what we all watched happen in the first 1/4. It felt like every season should have taken 3 episodes…not 14. In the last couple of seasons, I literally skipped entire episodes, and it did nothing to impact the plot.

The Supreme Court refused to prosecute Trump (for a blatantly illegal act) and ruled that he was immune to prosecution for “official acts” which they refused to define.

That’s what I said.

Then they slow walked the case back to a lower court - deliberately - so the determination was not made until after the election.

That’s not what delayed the case. The special prosecutor had to redefine the charges, in order to comply with the latest ruling, by specifying which ones were not included in Trump’s “official duties as president”. They were allowed to prosecute him for those…but inevitably ran out of time before they could proceed.

*Then in a state court, Trump was convicted, but the judge delared there was no penalty “because only a federal court could apply punishment”.

Then a couple of days later the DoJ dopped the case because “the president is immune from prosecution”.*

That’s because the election happened, and it is long-standing precedent that a sitting president can’t be prosecuted…as long as he’s in office. They can and most likely still will, return that case to court, as soon as he’s out of office.

The fact that he’s gay?

All this latest ruling did was support his last ruling, that deportees be given a chance to dispute their case in court. How is that “legally questionable”?

Thank God. This would have been 2 straight hours of mind-numbing dialogue between characters about how much they’ve been through together and how much they’re going to miss each other.

One is that it plays directly into notions of national/racial exceptionalism. “Our country/race is better than all the rest. Other nations/races should have to pay exorbitant fees just to do business with us.”

Except that’s not how tariffs work.

Sounds like there’s nothing to dissent, here. They already ruled that detainees should be given a chance to dispute their deportation, in court. This ruling just makes sure that Trump gives them that chance.

The president doesn’t decide the law. His job is to follow it.

Every accusation is a confession.

As in…he’s the “victim” of human trafficking.
