Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do websites still include those buttons to share articles in 2025? does anyone even still use them?601·12 hours agoUsers don’t need to interact with them, when a site adds the button to their page it allows that code to track you around the net. It’s still generating revenue even if you never click on it.
Sites still add them because it makes them money at the expense of your privacy.

Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some things you keep an eye out for a better, or different version of?1·1 day agoI mean, everything?
I take that back, my hand tools work great. Screwdrivers, chisels, clamps, five stars all around.
But everything else in my life, appliances, cars, government, communication, children, yeah they could probably all improve. And I’m happy to switch to a new system if something is clearly better. Brand loyalty is a scam, like patriotism.

Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Trump official to Katy Perry and Bezos’ fiancée: “You cannot identify as an astronaut”81·1 day agoYeah, there was no training, they aren’t trained to go into space. I don’t see how astronaut could possibly be an appropriate title. They’re payload mass in a sounding rocket.

Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•The Galaxy Brains of the Trump White House Want to Use Tariffs to Buy Bitcoin1·3 days agoI mean, Bitcoin is an appropriate currency to use as a reserve, that’s not misguided. The problem is that they can’t be trusted with access to the funds.
Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•The Galaxy Brains of the Trump White House Want to Use Tariffs to Buy Bitcoin2·3 days agoThat’s not a great assumption. He doesn’t need to take the margins on an increased value of Bitcoin, maybe making 20% on a quick investment… he could take the Bitcoin itself! Instead of making 20% on the money that he and his cronies put in, he could make 100% on the money the NATION puts in… It’s the difference between millions and many billions!
This is a much bigger deal than a pump and dump scam! Bitcoin is cash, he could convert it into any currency in the world whenever he wants. It’s instant money laundering.

Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•The Galaxy Brains of the Trump White House Want to Use Tariffs to Buy Bitcoin19·3 days agoYou forgot the part where they take all the government purchased Bitcoin and cash that out to personal accounts.
They could literally steal billions of dollars this way… It’s terrifying.
Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•The Galaxy Brains of the Trump White House Want to Use Tariffs to Buy Bitcoin3·3 days agoYeah, we can’t let them do this… Bitcoin is electric cash, once they have public funds in Bitcoin, they have turned it into private funds, they’ve already pocketed it. We can’t let them steal from the country like that…
Cocodapuf@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•The Galaxy Brains of the Trump White House Want to Use Tariffs to Buy Bitcoin2·3 days agoI’m not sure that’s sound investing advice…

Well you must have more money than you need. Perhaps you’re one of these rich people we’re all excited to eat.
If someone gave any rational person a free car (or in fact paid them to take it), they’d take the car and either drive it, resell it or give it to someone else. These are basically the only non crazy options. There aren’t many people who look at $20,000 and say “nah… let’s burn it”.
I know it was hyperbole, but it was still a ridiculous statement. Unless it wasn’t hyperbole, but then that could only make it dishonest.
