Bringing kids into a world while this is the backdrop of one’s life seems almost heartless.

World News@lemmy.world•🚨 BREAKING: Trump says Putin has agreed to supply millions of tons of diesel fuel, promising record-fast price drops for Americans and global markets.English
3·2 days agoSanctions on Russia. Nuclear Agreement with Iran. Tariffs on goods. Give that money to Russia. Remove nuclear agreement. Blame Iran.
This administration is the worst thing to happen to the world in quite a while. I hate using comparisons but you all know what it is.
All of this to slight of hand away from Trump-Epstein. All of this while supporting genocide. I know this is a little bit of an echo chamber, but JFC how is a single person in support of anything happening.

9·2 days agoI think the trump brain would consider this playing 3d chess while anyone casually observing is like, of course that is his move.
Pretty sure you nailed it with your summation.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI Bubble Teetering on the Brink as OpenAI Admits to Massive Financial Failure: A $20 billion setback.English
91·3 days agoOur company built an “AI” system that literally only searches our other shitty system and gives a usable interface. It is not AI and im sick of every database interface being called AI.
LLM at least makes sense from a nomenclature perspective.
10 years ago it was “smart thermostats” “smart x” just because they could connect to the internet.
This is the same gilded bullshit these companies always spin.
I showed up pretty drunk to a certain party many years ago, spun a little wheel a bunch of people warned me not to spin. Took a shot. Shot had LSD in it. Held on to the front yard so I wouldnt fall off.
Black out drunk trip is significantly less fun than regular fun times trip.
It was Halloween, got free drugs, had bad time. The end.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•White House website publishes a page on "socialism". They think it will scare people to hear that if we tax 1000 billionaires, $355,000 worth of benefits will be distributed to 150,000,000 households.
17·4 days agoManageable conceptual dollars if you want some basic fun math, look up the cost of the US Army (only army mind you) apache program, and then pull the numbers for the cost of Snap benefits for the entire country.
It is a priorities issue, not a money issue. I can’t be more clear in this; the government “for the people, by the people” no longer gives a single solitary fuck about any person. It is an oligarchy, kleptocracy, corporate-ocracy pick a name. That is not my opinion, it’s an observable, demonstrable, objectively true statement.
Military and government sponsored billionaire class.

8·4 days agomagneticstorms.co as the source is objectively perfection. Flatearth.co also has some interesting points about the earth being a god damn Frisbee.

7·4 days agoNot going to pretend I have looked into this whatsoever, but just consider the forces you are evaluating here. Planetary magnetism and solar ionization. You are a critter on a planet that came from other critters that came from other critters that came from a crit (single cell joke) and all those things were all subjected to these forces for hundreds of millions of years. Planet itself going on 5 billion years. Aside from that pesky moon slamming into us, and that one time all the blizzards (bird lizards) got annihilated, pretty okay place in the universe to be alive on.
Whatever sources you are diving into are probably not worth your mental effort. Maybe use a bamboo toothbrush and less plastic or something else manageable.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•The bosses don't pay their workers. Workers pay their bosses.

News@lemmy.world•High Diesel Prices Bankrupted 16 Trucking Companies in Just 30 Days
7·5 days agoHow does one transport the components of an AI infrastructure? That’s correct. The tubes. Elons millions of miles of tubes.
Fossil fuels, petrochemical refining and usage, industrialized meat “farming,” clothing/fast fashion, cement.
Im salary + commission, salary is just high enough for me to to convince myself to show up on time. My main issue is a lot of the work I do is not compensated by the commission. Only sales pays commission. So I try to trick myself into thinking the salary covers that type of work. Issue then becomes I would not do that work for that salary. Shitty loop my brain gets into.
We also have departments that do what my “extra” stuff is, they are just bad at it, so the teams I support send a lot my way because they know I can do it, and do it (generally) more quickly and effectively.
Double edged sword city

4·17 days agoThe fact these morons give any “brainpower” to thinking about furries is hilarious to me. I was probably in college when I first hear about furries, the extent of that thought was, “huh, what the fuck, oh well” because it ain’t my bag baby. Not worth ever thinking about again.
