Phoenix3875@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•The USA spends $15k/student annually which is 30% higher than the global median. Why do U.S. schools have "fundraisers" where kids are incentivized to sell stuff to people?3·14 days agoThat was my first reaction. I didn’t find the global average spending number reported by the OP, but according to this page, the 2019 average spending of $15,500 per student (38% higher than OECD average) did consider purchasing power.
Phoenix3875@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why don't communist movements focus on creating and nurturing employee owned businesses?31·19 days agoAccording to the UK’s Labour Party’s report on worker co-operatives in 2017, the main difficulty is access to credit (capital). It makes sense since the model basically eliminates “outside investors”. It has to
- Bootstrap with worker’s own investment, or
- Get investment from credit unions, or
- Have (national or local) government to back it up
Even in the above cases, the credit is often not large or cheap enough for the cooperatives to be competitive. (There are examples in the report that serve as exceptions, I highly recommend giving it a read.)
So at least from this, I’d think the appropriation of means of production would be more fundamental rather than being a simple result of some special way of organizing.
You forgot the biggest one:

There are inherently more ways to imagine changes than to point at the status quo.

It’s from the coin machine that sells a random toy in capsule. Gacha is the clicking sound that machine makes when you turn the button to get a capsule.
Now don’t look at the lamp next to your sofa too closely.
Or you can just simply slap your face. It has a similar sound effect.
