We will need that again.

I don’t think the USA is at the point where nonviolent methods are ineffective.

And look at Chile in 2019: https://itsgoingdown.org/submedia-presents-interrebellium-the-estallido-social/
They brought their authoritarian government to its knees with continued non violent (in the sense of lack of firearms) resistance combined with an effective general strike.
They ultimately failed because the liberal parts of the resistance fell for the reformist bait, but it demonstrated that you don’t need violence to win if you’re able to educate the movement that reform is a trap.

He was mentioning that the limiting factor on either platform is the DB, meaning that the parts written in Python will likely not be a limiting factor.
Piefed also has quite impressive optimizations in other areas as well compared to Lemmy or even Mbin.

It’ll be hell for activists.

PirateFrog@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?English2·7 days agoKind’ve an odd suggestion, but if you like more arcade-y type games, and think you’d an enjoy a more advanced sorta spiritual successor to dig-dug, I’d recommend checking out Mr.Do! On the SNES. Weirdly good.
Sunset Riders is a fun and short western arcade shooter, as is Wild Guns.
There’s also a pretty neat Shadowrun RPG on the SNES.
PirateFrog@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Is Reddit in/directly attacking lemmy instances with controversial AI posts to overpower mods and reduce user experience?English171·8 days agoI wouldn’t be too surprised if reddit was doing some action to keep Lemmy down (like down ranking posts that mention or link to Lemmy in their algorithm), but I don’t think lemm.ee shut down from any outside force attacking them, I think it was far more mundane.
A few things probably contributed:
- Lemm.ee was the second biggest instance, that’s going to attract a fair amount of drama and trolls no matter how you slice it. If you don’t have enough mods or admins to deal with that load, it can be overwhelming.
MrKaplan of Lemmy.world mentioned that .world is able to handle their size effectively due to ensuring they have enough active mods to handle their communities so there’s less load for the admins, perhaps lemm.ee did not.
- Their policy of non-defederation likely increased their drama and report burden, as some instances are known to have more toxic users than others, making defederation a powerful tool to make things manageable and quiet that report notification.
Combined with a lack of fresh admins to rotate out the ones getting burned out, and you’ve got a potent recipe to make the whole thing super un-fun and feel like an unappreciated slog of a job.
PirateFrog@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?English3·8 days agoI decided to throw Mega man Legends 2 on my miyoo mini, as I had fond memories of renting the first game as a kid, and never tried the sequel.
It’s an odd spinoff of the Megaman series that turns it into a 3rd person dungeon delving shooter, complete with story and fully voice acted 90’s anime style in-game cutscenes!
Thoughts on the sequel:
It has some improvements over the original, such as the ability to fly around the main ship on a world map! I liked the globe trotting aspect (the OG takes place in one city), and the art style and controls were pretty good.
It held my attention for about 4 or 5 hours, until I came across an underwater level, where things went downhill.
Even equipped with a missable underwater specific speed upgrade ability, movement speed underwater was cut to about a third of normal speed, and this was combined with large open spaces and the need to throw around some finicky boxes to reach high ledges sometimes were dead ends.
I just don’t have the tolerance for that sort of thing like I used to, so I deleted it and finished it by watching the cut scenes on YouTube! The ending is pretty cringe, so I’m glad I bailed, honestly.

LuckyGunner tested Buckshot at 100 yards. It was still deadly, but few pellets will hit.
Shotgun Slugs are effective out to 100 yards.
PirateFrog@lemmy.dbzer0.comto News@lemmy.world•Supreme Court allows AR-15 ban in MarylandEnglish2·8 days agoThe Spanish Civil War was Anarchists, Communists, and Liberals vs. a Hitler and Mussolini backed fascist Dictator, Franco.
The resistance had popular support, but the lack of weapons did severely hinder the left’s effectiveness, and caused them to become reliant upon Soviet Russia for weapons supplies, which ultimately spelled their downfall as the Soviets betrayed everyone else and began rounding everyone up to execute them.
I’m not saying having a surplus of small arms in the hands of the leftists would’ve changed the outcome of the war (they also needed tanks, airplanes, and artillery), but it would’ve been a pretty big asset, had they been able to fulfill those other needs some other way as well.
Thankfully he doesn’t have to worry about that, since your Sister already saw these texts last month.
I see you’re tweaking things this time though, refining the wording to… I don’t know, get the right sorta engagement?
Baffling why people go to this effort to create these little pieces of false drama, since there doesn’t seem to be a profit motive.
Just bored, I guess?
