He’s politically-relevant to the current state of the Democratic party, a fucked up election, and corruption of Joe Biden. Democrats repeatedly ignored his crimes and conflicts of interest as a nothingburger. Dems being tribalistic about “one of their own” instead of simply holding him accountable did them no favors.

No, I’m going to argue that “no-holds-barred” is not “political operative” and that adjectives modify nouns. If you see the phrase “evil dog”, are you going to assume that must mean all dogs are evil?

I’d also argue that you’re wrong about what “no-holds-barred” means too. After all, this is actually from an article championing the person in question. You misread a compliment for an insult because you’re operating on the preconceived notion that both “no-holds-barred” and “political operative” are negative terms when neither are.

People aren’t going to refer to their jobs in a pejorative way either. Did you forget that you were trying to say calling someone a “smart politician” is better than calling someone a “political operative”? You weren’t saying all politicians are bad so nobody would ever admit they were one.

Neither of these are retcons.

There’s zero plot or story changes here too to even start making the assertion a retcon happened. How and why are you escalating to accusing the entire TLOU2 of being a fanfic because of two extremely minor things about the previous game, one of which isn’t even true.

I wouldn’t call it “Walking Dead” style. If anything, it wears its Cormac McCarthy influences on its sleeve. If the first game was The Road, the second game is Blood Meridian. The story is intentionally dreary, miserable, uncomfortable, and emotionally draining. Kotaku’s review of the game was pretty on the money for a lot of people, it’s entirely possible to be so put off by the tone and story of the game because it’s so miserable.

The thing is that you play as Ellie and then as Abby to get both perspectives on the story. The entire message of the game is that revenge and unending conflict a downward spiral of self-destruction. Joel gets done dirty… but so does everyone. That’s the whole point of the game.
