  • They tried that. The nation was originally a confederacy. It failed. After adopting a federal government things worked better, even when a Civil War challenged that Union. You may nit like it but this is the best system found so far. We’re allowed to change the things we don’t like but it’s not easy to do precisely because such changes need to be difficult. Rally your communities. The largest voting block is “didn’t vote” and you may not like this but it’s mostly younger people and a big chunk of minorities that don’t actually vote.

Stop complaining if you aren’t willing to work towards fixing things.

  • No such thing as a normal election. No such thing as a reliable poll. Go vote.

Let’s not have a repeat of “how to vote after election day” trend on Google search this year like back in 2024.

Everyone should be spreading absolute terror among their communities because thats the only reason Biden won in 2020, there was an absolutely terrifying event taking place. People pay bills because they fear the consequences of not paying them, no one loves to pay their bills even if they understand they are necessary. Therefor, fear is the more powerful motivator.

  • Don’t forget how useless polls are: Hillary was going to win it was 98% certain, Kamala was going to win Iowa by as much as 14 points. Neither of these things happened.

Polls were always shitty because of small sample size but nowadays they’re probably being gamed by bad actors as well. And we’ve known that some people lie to save face: there was some legislation in California (think it was anti-immigration or something) and when they surveyed voters these people over-whelming said they were voting against it. Come election day the measure passes.

What happened? Well turns out the populace actually liked the law but they also didn’t want people to know they supported something that could be viewed as bigoted. So when some stranger called then and asked what they thought about it they lied to save face, while deep down they knew they were going to vote for it because it served their self interest.

  • It all started cause some dude put a razor blade in a kids candy but it turned out the guy who did it was a relative that didn’t like the kid or something.

The much more common problem with Halloween candy is how old it is. They start making Halloween candy months and months before it’s needed on the shelves so it tends to dry out. Now that every candy maker has eliminated real cocoa cause of cost cutting measures it also tastes like shit.

  • I mean unless they are somehow trying to develop an antibiotic and vaccine resistant strain of the plague?

That would be unwise as you’d ideally want to have an antibiotic available for your own troops in a war. We also pretty much know about all of Russia’s bioweapon work after the cold war ended, there’s even an Anthrax island site they abandoned.

Fortunately bio weapon research is even more niche today than it was at the height of cold war tensions and all nations have cut back and destroyed big chunks of their stockpiles.

Also keep in mind that things like leprosy still occur in the USA (Florida is even seeing a small increase in cases) so it’s not necessarily that uncommon or a cause for concern. Things like the plague, leprosy and even strep throat (known as scarlet fever back when it regularly killed kids and routinely caused deafness in survivors) and easier to cure/treat thanks to modern medicine. The hygienic practices we have these days also help keep these things from breaking out like they used to.

  • Nothing about producing nuclear weapons, let alone miniaturized thermo-nuclear devices optimized to get the most efficient reaction during detonation is cheap. And the knowledge wasn’t necessarily lost, that is impossible to determine since we’re dealing with highly classified secrets regarding the construction of a nuclear weapon.

It’s possible that while making fogbank they merely got a contaminated batch of boron. Let’s say, for example, you find your grandma’s recipe for apple pie. But when your mother tastes it she says it’s a little off. You then eventually realize that you used apples that weren’t ripe yet, or that grandma used apples that were beginning to get soft. Thats not really the same as “lost knowledge” it’s more an experience gap.

Clickbait always makes these things sound like we’ve lost this information and now we’re screwed because it can never be relearned and no one knows anything oh no doom and gloom. Truth is lots of knowledge, through-out history, has been “lost” and then “rediscovered” primarily because this info becomes less valued/important and eventually someone needs it again so they rediscover it. Happened alot with mathematical theories and concepts, like calculus.

No one wants to lose knowledge but no one wants to pay to keep it alive the proper way (master/apprentice system that ensures these tricks of the trade are continually passed on) so we favor a system where specialized experts (scientists) are called in to solve these issues and rediscover the tricks of the trade using the scientific process. Either way you pay for the knowledge but we wanted to save money and shutter a bunch of cold-war era defense companies when the cold-war ended. The consequences of that are when you want to resume making nuclear weapons of the quality America demands you have to hire those scientists to figure out all the pesky details like fogbank.
