I think its likely both. They would have to not only be a decent candidate they would have to be spectacular to overcome inherent bias and pick up votes from independents and the other party to make up for that bias.

Well right so to my point why run her again? And AOC can’t net a single independent so how the hell would that work? Its not just the race thing but even if race or gender loses you 10 - 20% of the vote you basically need to be the best candidate in history to win.
