My laptop is Mint and it’s never given me audio issues. My gaming rig is Nobara and the only audio issue I’ve had with it is that I forgot to switch the output to the TV.

2·7 days agoShe independently discovered it haha. I sit her down on the couch next to me while I’m working, and she constantly flops over. It drives me nuts! I would let her just do her thing, but she’s got pretty bad reflux and even just a minute or two of tummy time within like 2 hours of having a bottle will make her ralph.
The other day, I had to get up for a minute or two, and I left her on the couch. My better judgment kicked in and I pushed an ottoman next to the couch to block the space she usually tries to launch into. This is what I came back to see:

2·8 days agoIn the past, I’ve used Adguard Home, and I liked it. When I tried to my Adguard server as the DNS for my router, though, my WFH corporate VPN wouldn’t connect, so there’s that. Granted, I was using it to remove ads, but people seem to like it for parental controls too.

7·8 days agoI saw a deal for a pair of mini PCs with decent specs on eBay right after I got my annual bonus, so I jumped on it because I want to do the same thing for my kids. May be jumping the gun a bit…my son just learned the alphabet (uppercase only) and my daughter just learned how to flop off the couch head-first.

214·16 days agoAI-powered NPCs is like a childhood dream come true. But I agree it would be better for them to use a model running on the user’s system or at the very least host their own.
Love me some open source hygiene products! Blueland, the company that makes the cleaning sprays I use, does the same thing.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I am an American. I used to be proud of my country. Now it feels like a turd circling the drain. Is there anything going on behind the scene that America is actually doing good in?
6·20 days agoI’m an American, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I can imagine being proud of one’s country’s institutions. When a nation actually pulls off democratic republicanism, it’s something to be proud of. When a nation’s institutions protect civil rights and promote egalitarianism, it’s something to be proud of because that takes a lot to set up. Ultimately, a government is something built by a community and shaped by a culture. The people at the top would like to fool you into believing that government is a clash of wills between politicians, but they’re just the tip of the iceberg.
Although our highest offices have been corrupt for a long time (always?), Project 2025 dismantled many of our proudest institutions.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel that use of generative AI and LLMs is ever justifiable? If so, when and where? If not, why not?
2·25 days agoYeah, all of your use-cases are what I see as positive use cases for LLMs. I’ve got an Ollama instance hooked up to Home Assistant, but it does not work very well haha. Haven’t had the time to troubleshoot it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel that use of generative AI and LLMs is ever justifiable? If so, when and where? If not, why not?
1·26 days agoCan the rubber ducky use case really be considered plagiarism? I think it’s unequivocal that the models were trained on copyrighted data in a way that, if not illegal, is at the very least unethical. Letting AI write stuff for you seems a lot more problematic than using it to bounce ideas off of or talk things through.

2·27 days agoRespect! I too often take it for granted that it’s a privilege for my gaming rig and my homelab server to be separate boxes.
My server is Almalinux, my laptop is Mint, and my gaming rig is Nobara. But if I had to consolidate everything in to one machine, I’d pick Nobara.

1·27 days agoI honestly don’t know a ton about immutable distros other than that they let you front-load some difficulty in getting things set up in exchange for making it harder to break. I was just surprised that the distro of choice was Bazzite, since its target audience seems to be gamers.
I’ll let him know, thanks! I think he usually just uses D*scord with his friends

Aegis works perfectly. My university used Duo and then Okta, and both worked. I was unable to get Authy to work, though.
