gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto News@lemmy.world•Number of Americans who never want kids doubled in 20 years71·5 days agoI think the mistake you’re making here is that you’re comparing living conditions as they are today.
When you conceive a child today, however, that child is gonna be sentient over a timespan of maybe 80 years, with a significant part of that being decades in the future.
You can guess now that it doesn’t matter how the living conditions today are. It matters how the living conditions in the next decades are going to be.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto News@lemmy.world•Number of Americans who never want kids doubled in 20 years15·5 days agowhat are your stakes in the game? what does it cost you if you’re wrong and having children does indeed turn out to be a mistake? are you gonna pay for the damages? if not, then you have no right to tell people what to do.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto News@lemmy.world•Number of Americans who never want kids doubled in 20 years81·5 days agothe question you could ask yourself might be “would you like to be born again, as your child, if you could?” that would give you a clear indication of whether it’s worth it.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto News@lemmy.world•Number of Americans who never want kids doubled in 20 years61·5 days agohonestly, same. the only thing that keeps me going is some weird and irrational hope that things will get better in the future. i can feel that, but i can’t explain it rationally. if i didn’t have that hope, i’d go crazy. Like, what even is this mess?
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto News@lemmy.world•Number of Americans who never want kids doubled in 20 years55·5 days agogiving birth to “not let them have it” sounds a lot like “owning the libs”
self-harming behaviour because everything is made into a competition.

gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto World News@lemmy.world•No plans to allow any aid into Gaza, says Israeli ministerEnglish11·5 days agoalso note that the Holocaust did not only target Jews, but also homosexuals and other minorities. Yet when talking about WW2 victims, you mostly learn about Jews. Why is that?
It’s because (some) Jews have perfected the art of victimizing themselves more than others, in the expectation to get more favorable treatment from the world this way.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Are We All Just Living Beyond Our Means Now?21·5 days agoI want to place bets on the debt becoming a problem eventually.
I understand saying “debt isn’t a problem” is easy, as talk is cheap. I am however so sure about my position that i’m willing to bet money on the fact that debt will indeed become a problem, even for states and governments. Where can i make such a bet?

gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Having lived through the 2020s what kind of generational trauma are you going to pass on to your grandchildren?1·5 days agoi’d say that’s a coin flip on whether it works or not :)
(that’s because unfortunately not all parents give a flying fuck about the mental health that that child would be going to have, or rather, not have)
i’d go with something like “sure i’ll make children if you pay for them”
the moment they realize how expensive having children can be, that typically shuts them up rather quickly.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Having lived through the 2020s what kind of generational trauma are you going to pass on to your grandchildren?2·5 days agooh i’m not sure if it means anything to you if i say it, but:
i think you’re doing good for the environment. I’m not saying there’s too many people already (because there aren’t), but still, if there are fewer children being born, that will take off a significant pressure from the environment and that will affect everything positively. :)
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Having lived through the 2020s what kind of generational trauma are you going to pass on to your grandchildren?2·5 days agoSo you think the downward spiral is caused by the people in the population and not the political situation?
chances are high he also wouldn’t have been able to finish the talks in a meaningful way due to his health condition.
