This is real advice. I usually have to convince myself to just grab one or two things and put them where they belong, and that starts a chain reaction.

I also love advice from How to Keep House While Drowning (specifically about ADHD but helpful for anyone). There are five categories of things to be tackled in this order: 1) trash 2) dishes 3) laundry 4) things that have a place but aren’t in that place 5) things that don’t have a place.

  • I also know those kinds of people, and they are annoying. But I want to say, over 70k people go to Burning Man every year, so judging them by 11 people you know is not really fair.

I’d say the majority are extremely nice and kind people who are into art, creative self-expression, and environmental sustainability. Then you have some tech bros and rich people who fly in on private planes, clearly not in the spirit of the event. And there are some kids who just want to do drugs and dance (more power to them, but they can be annoying if you are not into their scene).

You rarely hear from the good people because they tend to not walk around showing off that they went to Burning Man. You’d never know my husband went 3 times unless you have a deep conversation with him or it just happens to come up.

But some people will go once and then form their entire personality around it. This is not a reason to dislike the event itself. Like I said, the general population and atmosphere are awesome.

My childhood cat figured out very quickly how to use the toilet, and would only do her business there. She was a smart kitty.

Edit: more context - this was in Russia in the 90s, and kitty litter was not a thing. We had to use shredded newspaper for her litter box, and she clearly hated going in it. So she watched us using the toilet, then we put some newspaper shreds into the toilet (one of those European toilets with a “shelf”), and she just went. She seemed much happier with this arrangement.
