Back in the Nintendo era we picked up a copy of Final Fantasy I when the local rental shop went out of business… The battery in it was 100% dead. So my brother would just leave the Nintendo on.
I don’t think I’ve had a console affected by this though.
Recently I had an Evercade cart die. It was the flash memory that gave up, though. Not the battery.
Anything under 3 is the swimsuit ending :)
Probably winter 91 or spring 92. Not sure when, but I saw the ads on TV and I needed to get Metroid II: Return of Samus.
I was 7.
I asked. I begged. And for Christmas or a birthday it came.
Every day when I came home from school, I played. Sometimes I took it with me and played at lunch.
Nobody else played that game. Nobody knew what I was talking about. I took the booklet with me and tried to draw the creatures.
I was stuck at one point. It lasted weeks. Maybe longer. One night before dinner I made some progress. My mother actually let me keep playing until I got to a save point.
Whatever feeling I had at that moment, I’m not sure I’ll find it again, but my expression must have been enough. I made it to the save point.
Eventually I beat the game but I’d look forward to getting home to try and speedrun it 100% And eventually I could consistantly beat it under 3 hours with 100% items. I haven’t had a game since that I’ve enjoyed as much except maybe a few shmups.
I don’t know. I use mpv because I switched to Linux in 2006 and I’m used to it now.
I did! I see it on my students’ screens in December. There is some other software that does little things like that. Pale Moon does something for Halloween I believe. I hardly ever watch videos on my computer though.
I was team mpc until about 2006, now I’m team mpv.
I still can’t remember why I disliked VLC, I think the first time I used it the video would not work but it played with mplayer.
Still good to have VLC around though, glad to see them stickin’ around all these years.
Most any criticism of the show is true. I will say that it is a good series to watch with people who haven’t watched Star Trek before because it is a little un-Trek-ish and there is less to stop and explain. Also, since the mission is top secret it has little overlap with anything except SNW.
As a Star Trek fan, I was happy to get more Trek, the same as I was happy to get more Picard (that S2 was a pain though!), Lower Decks, Prodigy, and even the Short Treks.
My wife was pulled into the world of Star Trek by Discovery (a full 36 years after I’d started watching the franchise) and now she loves it and wants to watch all of the other series. So, Discovery gets a point for that.
(I haven’t seen Section 31 yet. It is supposed to be very bad.)
Part of it is RFK Jr. and MAHA who are on a mission to “cure” autism because the whole anti-vax thing doesn’t fly (due to common knowledge and, you know, science).
So it looks like they are blaming the most common medication used by pregnant people.
It is just their anti-AI thing, not a paywall. 404 are good journalists that published tonnes of great stories.

I haven’t played yet, but it is a different character with a different moveset from what I’ve seen. This is probably the reaction Team Cherry wants as opposed to releasing a gale that panders to players like the new Shinobi.

The biggest up-and-comer now is smash burgers (€15 burger prepared in 5 minutes anyone?), but might be tied with fried chicken which is also everywhere.
Prior to this we had a wave of French Taco joints (which are not tacos at all!).
I don’t live in a very large city though, so perhaps Paris, Marseille, and Toulouse have trends I haven’t seen yet.
Oh for sure, they can be aggravating but I haven’t watched any of their vids in over a year. I wouldn’t take their advice the same as how I wouldn’t want anyone to take my advice. Just because someone says they work in IT doesn’t mean they do, right? I used to work in a pharmacy and people would ask me for medical advice when they saw me in town, but I didn’t work in the dispensary. I knew the answer to their question, but I was not going to risk it.
I was about to watch when I realized who it was. To be honest, many of the Linux YouTubers have turned me off for different reasons, but I never enjoyed this guy’s videos and I’m not the only one…
I guess I should watch this to give a decent opinion. Other distros are just as political and decisions reflect their stance (like how Alpine doesn’t include Xlibre for reasons). As it stands, I’m fine with that.
I am unaware of the particularities surrounding the Debian situation, so I’ll still need to play catch up.
Quite a few, but the one that I’ve played the most is Super Metroid. I do like to play through the different Mega Man games too and a few others, but they are almost all well known games.
I have rediscovered other games that I totally overlooked because I thought they were too kiddy or too hard like The NewZealand Story, Gimmick and so many shmups.
I had a light for mine. Took 4 AA batteries. Amazing that I never complained about that… But my mom made us use rechargable batteries.
It’s what I’ve been using since the early 2000’s. Whatever laptop I can get for free with boring Linux. I teach all my classes across multiple establishments with it. Battery still lasts over 9 hours. Beats the Raspberry Pi I used as a computer for 6 months!
I do have a colleague that installed one of the LLMs on their computer to play around with translation and live subtitles, and another who claims ChatGPT taught him French. Maybe there is something to it, but I draw the line at using AI because, as I said, I forbid it in my classes.
I have a 10-year old laptop with integrated graphics running Debian Stable, so I don’t think I’ll be using a local LLM any time soon haha. I tell my students I don’t want them to use any of these tools so I don’t use them either.
OpenAI doesn’t really have a product in the business sense, which is the fraud and why I compare him to Holmes. But I get what you mean.

Same, only played local but I got the game for something like $13 CAD.
I did have the internet connection module, but not for playing online.
I picked up both items in order to use Phoenix to play pirated game but ended up liking PSO.
