That sounds about right to me! Trying to go full steam ahead for 8 hours a day isn’t sustainable or even desirable.

I found Cal Newport’s book Slow Productivity really helped me get some perspective on work. It has three main lessons: Do Fewer Things, Work at a Natural Pace and Obsess over Quality.

Ah I see. I’ve only played Mindustry (2D Java/ Android equivalent) and if I left that running overnight I’d wake up to complete devastation!

Hmm… I was going off Wikipedia which says 2020 - I guess the earlier release was an alpha.

In any case having your factories running in the background (overnight?) would quickly bump up those hours. Not sure it’d make for a very interesting stream though!

I never really got into quake in the same way but I did enjoy some quake 2 mods. I’d gone to uni by then so didn’t have as much free time to while away!

This edition of PC Zone Magazine cost £4 back in 1995. The cover CD had 1,000 Doom levels and IIRC a bunch of modding tools. I probably got 1,000 hours of entertainment out of it and often think back marveling at the value for money!

Of course all this stuff is available for free online nowadays!

I think the title is an exaggeration. The problem is that Rust’s regex module doesn’t support “look around” patterns. It seems like the fancy_regex create extends support for this.

Get a Steuerberater. IIUC they charge based upon your revenue and it’s certainly easier than doing it yourself. They’ll generally deal with all the bureaucracy.

Don’t use platforms like ODesk/ Fivvver to find work as you’ll be competing on price for commodified work. You’ll have more interesting and better paid work if you have a hand in developing the role with your clients.

You need to do some sales and marketing work - e.g. create a portfolio and go to events to meet people in the industries you’re interested in. Finding work is largely luck but you don’t invest the time then you’ve got no chance.

The fees will really depend on experience and the value you’re adding. Check out e.g. Glassdoor for equivalent employed roles to get a ballpark. Estimate 200 days per being available at full utilisation.

I can see why the “you’re spending too long on twitter” stuff seems a bit creepy but something like this would really help me remember what I was doing to prepare timesheets/ invoices! I currently have to wade through chat logs/ git/ file modification dates to try and figure it out which is a pain.
