I built a computer for my uncle and his kids and installed Linux on it. My cousin wanted to play Fortnite, and I tried to pitch it to him as a feature instead of a bug. But a couple weekends ago, I caved and installed dang Windows 11 for him.

You caved to the megacorps immense pressure on kids to recruit and devulge their friends and peers desires so that the hypercapitalist pedo lords can Harvest them D: with knowledge that this goes on? Based.

I realized that I’m not going to win him over by being a jerk about it. Sometimes, all you can do is give people the space to come to the right conclusion themselves.

I realize it’s too late now, but as I’ve posted before on Lemmy: you can “run” Fortnite on Linux well enough by using a game streaming service like Luna or GeForce Now. It’s the only game I run that way on my PC and only because my kids enjoy teaming up with me in BRs.

I mention it because it seems like most people aren’t aware it’s an option (even on Windows, if you want to avoid rootkits on your system). Not for everyone, but you can technically stick to your principles/security and still play (some of) those kinds of games.

          Proceed with sanctimonious bellyaching below:

Oh neat, I hadn’t even thought of that! I think it’ll be a hard sell to switch him back, but I’ll keep this option in mind. I’m just hoping he grows out of it haha.

My brother has been interested in switching to Linux but he’s into those kind of games too. I’ll recommend him to try it out!

The neat thing is he can try it before switching from windows to see if it’s something he’s cool with. When I first started using Luna there were random input lag spikes but I haven’t had that problem in months. The only real downside is sometimes it seems like my voice/chat settings get reset (I like to turn off voice and text chat because toxicity).
