Maybe this would fit in a tech section, but I figure we’re all decently techie.
Is there anything out there that’s noob (ie, non tech literate) friendly that I can use for sharing audio? I’m sick of using gmail and dropbox for this (not to mention they steal every file you put on their platform)
FTP would work but seems to complex for a normie. And a lot of folks want to listen quick on their (shitty) phone speaker, so something web based is probably preferred…
Edit I did this fast so forgot to mention, this is for sharing mixes with other band members/friends. So, personally recorded music files.
My go to: https://buzzheavier.com/
How can this exist ?? Seems too good…
I don’t know how it works for streaming, in other words, whether the recipient can use the “preview” function (which only the recipient of the share link can see) to listen to music as streaming from a streaming platform. However, I do use it to let people download stuff. 😊
Just tested. You can stream audio!!
Dang. Their paid plans are great too
Sic 🤙
If OP just wants a filesharing website, I’d also throw in https://pixeldrain.com/, https://gofile.io/.
Gotta love pixeldrain’s Patreon tier names. BUT! It doesn’t have quite as cool a slogan as buzzheavier: Remember: Sharing is caring, censorship is lame, and Buzzheavier is forever.
https://wormhole.app/ sounds like it could fit
https://localsend.org/ for when you meet up
Navidrome might be up your alley.
This could work actually. Even though its not for commercial music, its our own mixes.
Put it on YouTube.
Clarified my question. Its for personal song mixes.
Also YouTube is just as bad as Dropbox or gmail, prefer not to use.
Rule 5. Locking.
I was about to suggest to send the files through torrent, it is the simplest method for sending files from one computer to another if you don’t need to announce it on a tracker. Just create a torrent file, send it through email, double click at the other end and the transfer starts.
Ive seen that asked about too, that actually works? To me it makes the most sense. Use p2p.
But again, these are folks who would say thats scary darkweb stuff and wouldnt touch it. Especially if they need to install another program .
Still, I like the idea!
The only down side is that they need to install a torrent client. I usually make them install Transmission, it is the simplest torrent client I know of and its name says all they need to know about what it is for.
I would maybe look into getting a cheap seedbox, for torrents, but they come with all sorts of tools built in along with a nice amount of storage space, plenty for some audio files uncompressed or not. You could listen on the web through the included streaming tools, I guess the only issue would be the uploads which would be via FTP but once you have a profile set up to login and go to the right directory in the GUI FTP program, it’s like a few button clicks to connect and you can drag and drop files. Well just a long thought lol. Probably not the easiest option.
Flash drives?
YouTube?
I would make use of a VPS to serve a directory with the files using Nginx. The VPS is ~$5 /month. You can share the ip or buy a domain name for ~$10/year. If you are not opposed to vibe-coding, you can probably generate the Nginx + HTML config to play through the songs without having to click them individually with little effort.
Context?
Just sharing our recorded music files with friends for mix notes etc. We are always sending files back and forth.
What about whatsapp? I’ve found it good for sending larger video files.
Sorry no, I don’t use meta products willingly . appreciate it tho!
Gotcha fair enough. I just figured since you were using google products it would be acceptable.
Oh gotcha, no I want to limit my usage of them.
It’s kind of a catch-22 finding a solution that works for non tech folk.
You can send up to 100MB files on signal if that’s acceptable to you.

it’s mainly for voice note recording and i am not sure what the file size limits are but vocaroo does allow uploads and is pretty simple for sharing.
I’m amazed how lemmings find stuff like this !! Theres no way I would have found that.
