I honestly was not expecting them to branch out into other IP beyond DK. With this introduction it does feel like they are heading towards a Smash Brothers movie. That aside, I would love a Star Fox franchise to exist again. Looking forward to the new rumored game.

This is a thought I had for Hulk being in ragnarok. That would have been an amazing surprise in the move theater.

Oh boy it was an amazing surprise for me. I hadn’t been keeping up with the Marvel films and my friends invited me to Thor: Ragnarok (I hadn’t seem the first two).

I was absolutely flabbergasted to see the Hulk there. I was like “What the fuck is he doing here! This is awesome!”

Sometimes it’s great to be out-of-the-loop

I didn’t care much for the first one, so likely wasn’t going to see this - but I do agree. Stuff like this is a nice surprise to find out in the movie, though I’m certain there are people that were not going to see this film previously that now will because of this. Hoping for their sake it’s not a 3 second little easter egg, haha.

I felt similarly for when Captain America: Civil War advertised Spider-Man.

I feel like it was supposed to be a surprise, hence the almost total lack of StarFox stuff in the trailers, but then people who looked really carefully at the trailer noticed a leg that looks like Fox’s and posted it all over social media, so Illumination (and Nintendo maybe) decided to embrace the publicity.

On an personal sidenote, when Nintendo and Illumination announced their partnership, I threw together an outline of how I would do it. I would have adapted Galaxy as the grand finale, and would have also brought in Team StarFox (and also the Triforce bearers). Heh.

Anyway, I kind of suspect they’re doing Galaxy precisely because it lets them introduce the StarFox characters relatively seamlessly. The heroes chase Bowser across the galaxy, somebody says they’re going to need help, and Rosalina says she knows just the team… Then if reception is positive, they can spin off Team StarFox into their own movies.

Hmm. Perhaps the second Zelda movie will see Samus land in Hyrule.

My thought is that I didn’t know he was in the movie because I’ve been avoiding trying to see stuff about it since half the fun is finding out fun easter eggs while watching.

But scrolling Lemmy spoiled that, so that’s fun.

My apologizes. It was not my intention at all. It’s been all over the internet, so I falsely assumed everyone knew by this point.

Let’s just face facts. It’s basically the same strategy as Space Jam 2.

Instead of any - y’know - varied entertainment value, what you’ll get is an assembly line of “'member this character?”

Probably followed by one big group shot, end on credits and sale of merch at the exits.

Form a line for ancillary evil but cute villain side kick character #32. 130$ - made in Bangladesh by children 2$ a pop.

How that I’ve pissed all over what little joy and pleasure you gain from this rechid world, it’s time to attend a funeral to geno remind everyone how awful their loved ones were when they were still alive.

    Captain Buzzkill, away~! Swoosh!

i passed over the first mario movie because the trailers made it feel to “look, thing from game!” and it seems like this one is doubling down on that just with nintendo instead of mario. it’s a shame, because mario’s wild setting is such fertile ground to tell all sorts of stories, and star fox could make for a great space opera in it’s own right. here’s hoping this upcoming zelda thing has some faith in itself instead of just trying to cruise on brand recognition

I just hope that Kirby is canonically the most powerful being in the movies, like he is in the universe and in Smash

I’m pretty sure I just saw a headline mentioning Nintendo working on a new Star Fox game, so I imagine they’re some tie-in here with the character in order to market the game to a new generation.

I’m fine with this. If they want to try for an expanded cinematic universe, they can try. Fox and Samus and Kirby and Animal Crossing too. I don’t mind. I liked Star Fox quite a bit, so I guess I’m happy!

I found out in the last edition of “what are you playing this weekend.” I’m an avoid spoilers person, but I managed to relax myself and smile. It’s neat to think of another MCU (or maybe instead of Mario, it would be the Nintendo Cinematic Galaxy?).
