    What’s so goddamned ironic is that I cannot tell you how many asshole Taco supporters would mutter nonsense about “Big Tech” because of them being trained like good little parrots to talk about “Big Tech” as if it was liberal, LOL.

    When I’d ask them any further questions about such claims, I’d usually get nonsense about how they were being “censored” or “shadow banned” and other such hilarity. Most of it came after their October surprise was foiled, seemingly, in relation to Hunter Biden’s hard drive, oops I mean, “laptop”.

    And now, well, will you look at that. These guys are just talking about having “Big Tech” simply set policy, because, hell, why not. Worthington’s Law in action.

    Anyway, I guess suggesting that people with huge communication platform add fact-checking on Russian disinformation campaigns or anti-vaxxer quackery in the middle of a fucking pandemic, that was where they drew the line…having shadowy, deeply weird freaks like Thiel who are enamored of even weirder freaks like Curtis Yarvin and the authors of The Sovereign Individual set policy for the rest of us…very cool.

      Although no one was prosecuted, the congressional committee final report said, “there is no question that these attempts were discussed, were planned, and might have been placed in execution when and if the financial backers deemed it expedient.”

        I’ve read a lot about this incident. The bottom line is it was going to be too embarrassing to the US government and corporate interests and so the business leaders likely received a stern talking to behind closed doors to never attempt anything like this again or else bad things would happen to them (presumably family names ruined, contracts canceled, etc.). A deal that, in fairness, they appeared to honor afterward.

            That’s actually a misconception that I believed for quite a while as well, because it was reported as fact in the mid 2000s by the BBC (I even saved the original report back in the day).

            But Butler never reported Prescott Bush as a conspirator, to our knowledge (at least not publicly, which is all we have to work with). The only reason Bush’s name came up at all in the report was because he and his firm were being investigated separately by the same congressional committee because of deep business ties to the Nazis, and it was around the same time. But basically, Bush was too busy making money by working with the Nazis at the time to be involved with the plot.

            Quite a lot of American industry at the time was working with the Reich, because many business leaders supported Hitler. Once America formally entered the war, doing business with Germany became illegal and any remaining fascist sympathies instantly became socially verboten.

      Anecdotal, but from my time in school most people actually did. AP US history was the straw that broke the camel’s back for all of the stu-co honors society top 15 kids I had that class with. The most hated class, just absolutely whinging about the sheer onerousness of the exam and study guide. My theory has always been their heads were already full to the brim with memorizing the physics and maths and other classes’ materials. History is just too much to memorize and regurgitate like that, it requires thinking, and a lot of it. I came away from that experience with the understanding that a lot of people fucking hate thinking any more than they have to, even (or especially) a-political folks. Loved that class, we had an excellent teacher too. S-tier teacher, really cool guy.

        Thinking involves discovering new experiences and feelings, some of which may be uncomfortable or troubling if uncovered or undertaken in contexts in which we do not feel secure, since our survival instinct may in many cases outpace our adapted ability to draw knowledge from our families and peers to glean insight into the general best practices or possible outcomes when attempting new activities or procedures for navigating or contributing to our world/society. Many people live and die by fear, never finding true rest or feeling a complete sense of peace for more than mere moments, at the edges of their more conscious experiences.

      MAGA’s anti-elitism is partly what got us here in the first place. Does anyone else remember “drain the swamp”? I don’t think any of the people are for this.

      All of the magats I got around hate the rich, and they’re starting to turn on donny… but I’m not holding my breath for them to change their hard R votes.

        It will be so hard to wake some of these people up enough to vote against the Confederate Party, because of all their training to balk at doing so - because, OMG, “woke”, “DEI”, “CRT” and “antifa”.

        Besides all the wedge identity politics (their fixation on things that have zero impact on their quality of life, like “men in women’s bathrooms/sports” is legendary), the red-baiting bullshit runs nearly as deep. It’s just common currency among so many Republicans to just casually talk about the Democratic Party as if they really are filled with literal Communists.

      Of course they didn’t, but they’re willing to sacrifice core American values in the name of hate. They want to kill the LGBT population because a book said to (it wouldn’t even be a sin to them) and they might not get into heaven if they don’t, kill immigrants because they’re afraid, and kill minorities because they’re aggrieved (they resent having to have given up their slaves).

        That’s it. That’s the entire reasoning. This is why MAGA had that mass-psychosis about the “Rapture” late last September. This is the stated reason our Republican Senators and house Reps echo when supporting Israel. Because the Bible says those who support Israel will be raptured… except the Bible doesn’t actually say that. MAGA just wants to be free of this world.

        Even with their politicians in office, MAGA hates this time as much as the most devout leftist. We’re all suffering, everywhere, unless you have Big money. Republicans just think that suffering under their Dear Leader is how they ascend into the afterlife, so they can finally be free of their pain. Rather than support actual policy changes, they’ll try to unlock some “secret ending” they heard about in their churches.

        It’s actual insanity. You’d have better luck quoting scripture to getting these people to believe different nonsense, than to get them to touch base with reality. Fuck… I can’t really blame them. The last year has made me lose my mind, and I don’t want it back.

    It’s not secret. It’s called dark enlightenment(basically just the feudal system) they have been writing and blogging about it for decades.
